Portapotty + Fire = Puddle

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Portapotty PuddleEver wonder what would happen to a portapotty if it were to ever catch on fire? No, well someone did and couldn’t resist their scientific discovery urges. Nothings left but a few pieces of rubber, unholy odor and scorched earth. This scene was an unpleasant discovery of mine on the way to work one morning. Surprisingly they’ve since placed another portapotty in the exact same location without any added security. Tempting fate or simply setting a trap? Either way I’d be perfectly content if I’m never again subjected to such a wretch-inducing discovery.

Trix is Back! with Balls

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Trix BallsFinally, after years of tear the roof of your mouth with inedible “fruit shaped” cereal they’ve gone back to their roots of fruit flavored sweetened corn puff balls! “Balls, they were never balls before, you’re crazy!” is the response I’ve often gotten for years when I’d reminiscing remark on the good old days of Trix. Which, not surprisingly, I’ve done quite often when faced with modern cereal selections. It’s refreshing to see a cereal going back to how it once was instead of following the sickening trend of “new and improved” destruction of the breakfast staple. Now if only Honey Combs and Cheerios would follow suit and stop: adding fruit, “improving the taste” and down-right creating Styrofoam tasting, non-milk absorbing, formerly known as cereal, processed wheat and corn.

ChocoMallows

ChocoMallowsThey’ve finally done it! Mainstream chocolate flavored marshmallows by none other than the corporate giant Kraft with their Jet Puffed marshmallows brand. Now you can enjoy the savory goodness of soaking a marshmallow in cocoa without the soggy mess or the prep time of mixing cocoa. With this simple, yet genius move gone are the days of needing a chocolate bar to make a smore, thus taking a three ingredient recipe and making it two! I must say hats off to you guys for pulling this long overdue rabbit out of the hat.

Tall glass of fabric softener

Fabric Softener CartonGreat news for the blind, or anyone who has ever haphazardly felt around in the dark for a familiar shape; none so more familiar than the iconic “milk carton”. Clumsy, at times a pain to open but never the less a very familiar and unique shape for ones hand to stumble across. Unfortunately someone somewhere must’ve dropped the ball on the patent as this once iconic shape is used for everything from milk, to orange juice and now even fabric softener. (more…)

Cheesy California Cows

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

California CowsIf you have ever spent a monocle amount of time in California you have no doubt seen or worse heard the ridiculous advertisements of the happy California cows. “Great cheese comes from happy cows. Happy cows come from California“. I’ll spare you the details, as my focus this time is on this obvious (at least to me) “photoshopped” subliminal smiley face created by juxtaposing two cows side-by-side. I spotted it instantly; it was the first thing I saw in fact. But then in my field I not only am trained and aware of such trickery but I have done my fair share. When something stands out so obviously as this, you can’t help but grimace and feel ashamed as a fellow designer.
